A long time ago, a righteous person used to live in a village in the jungle. He had a donkey, a rooster, and a dog. The rooster woke him up for morning prayers, the donkey brought him water and other necessities of life, and the dog guarded his house and belongings.
One day, the fox ate the rooster. The household was extremely upset over this loss. But this righteous person remained patient and said, “Allah does what is best.” Then, a few days later, a wolf attacked the donkey. The family was saddened again. However, the man repeated the same words, “Allah does what is best.” Then, some time later, the dog fell ill and died. Upon this, he again said, “Allah does what is best.”
A few days later, bandits attacked the village in the middle of the night. They, listening to the sounds of animals in the village, determined the location of the houses and looted the belongings, taking all the inhabitants as prisoners. Now, in the house of this righteous person, there were no animals making noise, so the bandits couldn’t locate it in the darkness, and thus they returned empty-handed.
So, this righteous person was saved from this sudden calamity, and thus, with patience, his conviction in the words “Allah does what is best” grew stronger.
There are many virtues of patience mentioned in the Holy Quran. Therefore, Allah instructs in Surah An-Nahl, verse number 126: “And O my beloved! Have patience, and your patience is only with the help of Allah.”
پرانے وقتوں کی بات ہے کہ اللہ کا ایک نیک بندہ کسی جنگل کی ایک بستی میں رہا کرتا تھا۔ اس کے پاس ایک گدھا، ایک مرغا اور ایک کتا تھا۔ مرغا اسے صبح نماز کے لیے جگاتا۔ گدھے پر وہ پانی اور دیگر ضروریات زندگی کی چیزیں لاد کر لاتا۔ اور کتا اس کے گھر کی اور ساز و سامان کی رکھوالی کرتا۔
ایک دن مرغے کو لومڑی کھا گئی۔ تو اس نیک شخص کے گھر والے اس نقصان پر بے حد پریشان ہوئے۔ پر اس نیک شخص نے صبر کیا اور کہا اللہ پاک جو کرتا ہے، وہ بہتر کرتا ہے۔ پھر چند دن بعد بھیڑیے نے گدھے کو چیر پھاڑ ڈالا۔ اہل خانہ غمگین ہوئے۔ لیکن اس آدمی نے پھر یہی کہا کہ اللہ پاک جو کرتا ہے وہ بہتر کرتا ہے۔ پھر کچھ عرصے بعد کتا بیمار ہوا اور وہ مر گیا۔ اس پر بھی اس نے یہی الفاظ دہرائے کہ اللہ پاک جو کرتا ہے، بہتر کرتا ہے۔
کچھ روز بعد ڈاکوں نے جنگل کی اس بستی پر راتوں رات حملہ کر دیا۔ وہ ڈاکو بستی میں موجود جانوروں کی آوازیں سن سن کر گھروں کا پتہ لگاتے اور مال و اسباب لوٹ کر سب گھر والوں کو قیدی بنا کر ساتھ لے گئے۔ اب اس نیک شخص کے گھر میں کوئی جانور ہی نہیں تھا، جو بولتا۔ لہذا ڈاکوں کو اندھیرے میں اس نیک شخص کے مکان کا پتہ ہی نہ چل سکا اور وہ اسی طرح واپس ہو گئے۔
یوں وہ نیک شخص اس آفت ناگہانی سے محفوظ رہا اور یوں صبر کے ساتھ ساتھ اس کا یقین پختہ ہو گیا کہ اللہ جو کرتا ہے، وہ بہتر کرتا ہے۔ قرآن پاک میں صبر کے بہت سے فضائل آئے ہیں۔ چنانچہ اللہ پاک قرآن مجید میں ارشاد فرماتا ہے پارہ نمبر چودہ سورۃ نخل کی آیت نمبر ایک سو ستائیس میں جس کا ترجمہ یوں ہے “اور اے محبوب! تم صبر کرو اور تمہارا صبر اللہ پاک ہی کی توفیق سے ہے”۔
