There was a forest where all the animals lived in peace and quiet. Suddenly, a monkey and a fox pair announced “economic reforms”. They built a large market in the middle of the forest and announced that from now on, no animal would be able to pick fruit directly from the tree, but everything would be available from the market.
The market was given to a powerful elephant who was an expert in hoarding.
One morning, when the rabbit went to buy carrots, he found that the price of carrots had doubled. The rabbit asked in surprise: “Yesterday they were cheap, what happened today?”
The elephant replied, shaking his trunk: “Look, brother! There has been a drought in the other forest, so the prices have increased here.” Although the truth was that the elephant had hidden the entire stock of carrots in his large warehouse to create an artificial shortage.
The rabbit, worried, went to the monkey (who was the finance minister). The monkey took out a big calculator and said: “Don’t worry! Inflation is rising because you people eat more carrots than necessary. If you eat half the carrots, prices will automatically come down. This is the principle of ‘demand and supply’!”

A few days later, petrol (tree oil) was also made expensive in the forest. The fox announced: “With the increase in oil price, everything will be expensive now, because the sparrows now have to put in more effort to bring the grain!” The animals saw that:

1. The elephant’s barn was filling up and he was getting fatter.

2. The monkey and the fox were getting a huge commission from the market.

3. The poor ants and goats had skipped a meal because their income was there but the prices were skyrocketing.

Finally, an old bull, who had been carrying a load all day, panted:
“Everything has become expensive in this forest, except the blood of the poor animal. Here prices are not determined by ‘world conditions’, but by the ‘intentions of the rulers’.”
