This faith-refreshing incident is that of Hazrat Uzair (AS), who was one of the great prophets of the Children of Israel.

When the disobedience of the Children of Israel exceeded the limit, Allah Almighty brought punishment upon them. A cruel king named Bakht Nasr attacked Jerusalem, killed countless people, exiled many, and imprisoned thousands. The city was completely destroyed and left desolate. Hazrat Uzair (AS) was also among the prisoners.

After some time, when he was released from captivity, one day he rode his donkey and reached Jerusalem. Seeing the devastation and desolation of the city, his heart was filled. The devastation was so great that there were ripe fruits on the trees, but there was no one to pick them. In this state, he involuntarily said:
“How will Allah Almighty revive this city after this devastation?”

He ate some fruits, extracted the grape juice, put the rest in a skin, tied the donkey and began to rest under a tree. In this state, Allah Almighty caused him to die. He remained like this for a hundred years, but Allah kept him hidden from the eyes of every creature.

After seventy years, the settlement began again in this wasteland, people were settled, buildings were built and Baitul Maqdis became more beautiful than before. When the full hundred years were completed, Allah Almighty brought Hazrat Uzair (AS) back to life.

He saw that the donkey’s bones were scattered and the flowers had rotted, but his food and grape juice were completely safe. There was no deterioration in them and no smell. His age also seemed to be the same forty years, his hair was black.

Allah Almighty said:
“O Uzair! How long did you stay here?”

He said: “A day or a little less than that.”

Allah said: “No, you have lived for a hundred years. Now look at your donkey.”

Then he saw with his own eyes that the scattered bones were gathered together, a skeleton was formed, flesh was put on it, and the donkey stood up alive. Seeing this scene, he said:
“I know that Allah is capable of all things.”

Later, when he reached his home, no one recognized him. There was a very old and disabled woman sitting there who had seen him in his childhood. He said: “I am Uzair.”

He asked for a sign and requested prayer. His vision and health were restored by his prayer. He testified that this was indeed Hazrat Uzair (AS).

Then he was taken to the assembly of the Children of Israel where his son, who was now an old man, and his grandchildren were present. Everyone was convinced by the arguments and signs. Unfortunately, some people misunderstood this great event and fabricated a false belief, which was complete polytheism.

There is a big lesson for us in this incident:
The donkey’s bones rotted in one place, but the Prophet of Allah and his food remained safe. This is a clear proof that Allah Almighty has complete power over everything.

May Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, grant us the right faith, correct belief and understanding of religion, and grant us the end of faith. Amen.
