A dispute arose between a Jew and a hypocrite (apparently a Muslim) over some matter, and the Jew proposed to appoint the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as an arbitrator for the decision. The hypocrite was against appointing the Jewish leader, Ka’b bin Ashraf, as he was a bribe-taking Jew. After much persuasion and argument, both agreed to appoint the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So they both presented their case to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ruled in favor of the Jew because he was proven to be right, but the hypocrite did not accept this decision and said, “Now we will appoint Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) as an arbitrator. Whatever decision is given will be binding on both of us.” The Jew agreed to this suggestion of the hypocrite in order to settle the matter and went to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The Jew told Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that both of us had previously gone to Muhammad (peace be upon him) as an arbitrator and he had given a decision in my favor, but this person (the hypocrite) did not agree with the decision of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and now he has brought me to you. Hazrat Umar asked the hypocrite: Is what he (the Jew) has said correct? The hypocrite confirmed that yes, his statement is absolutely correct. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You two stay here and do not go back until I come. Having said this, he went into the house and came out with a sword and then beheaded the hypocrite with it and said, “This is my decision for anyone who does not accept the decision of Allah and His Messenger.” The heirs of this hypocrite came to Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) and claimed that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had killed him and swore that they had only gone to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) so that he might reconcile them in this matter, not because they refused the decision of Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him). These verses were revealed to him: “Do you not see those who claim to believe in what has been revealed to you and what has been revealed before you, and they want to be judged by the Taghut?” “Have you not seen those who claim that they believe in the Book that has been revealed to you and the Book that was revealed before you? They want to take their cases to the Taghut (although they have been ordered to disbelieve in it).”
The real truth has been revealed in these verses and Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has said:::Farooq:::.
One thing has also been proven that his title is heavenly. The other is that even today there are many nominal Muslims who are actually hypocrites who do not like the decisions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from their hearts (May Allah forgive them).
