In the narrow and dark streets of a city, there lived a blind man. He was simple-hearted and kind-hearted. People knew him and helped him, but he was used to living his own life.

One night he went out for some work. While leaving, a friend of his gave him a burning lamp.

The blind man was surprised and asked:
“I can’t see, what use is this lamp to me?”

The friend smiled and said:
“This lamp is not for you, but for others… so that they can see you and not bump into you.”

The blind man walked with the lamp.

He was walking slowly through the streets. The light of the lamp was spreading around him. People would see him from a distance and change their path.

After some time, a man suddenly came and bumped into him.

The blind man was surprised and said:
“Didn’t you see? I have a lamp in my hand!”

The other man laughed and said:
“There is a lamp… but its light has gone out.”

The blind man was silent for a few moments.

He held the lamp in his hand and began to think:

“I thought I was giving light to others, but I myself could not even know whether there was any light left or not.”

He smiled softly, and said in his heart:

“A person should not only claim to show others the way, but should also see whether there is any light left within him.”

Moral lesson

1. Before giving advice to others, it is necessary to look at oneself.

2. The light within is more important than the external light.

3. A person often thinks that he is right, but the reality needs to be checked.
