It was a common practice among the Arabs to migrate from one place to another in search of grass and water.
Among these people was a man who had a mother—a very old woman—and he was her only son.

The old woman sometimes lost her memory. The son did not want to leave her, so his mother’s tent was also close to her. But her frequent going out caused hardship for the son and became an obstacle to the tribe’s journey.

One day the tribe decided to migrate to another place.

The man said to his wife:
“Tomorrow when we leave, leave my mother here. Put some water and food with her, so that someone can come and take her.
It is better for us that she dies far from us.”

In the morning the tribe left and the wife understood what her husband wanted.
The wife left her mother-in-law there as she wished… but she also left her only child with her.

In the afternoon, the tribe stopped to rest. As usual, the man asked his wife to call the child.
The wife replied:
“I left him with your mother.”

He was shocked: “What?!”

The wife said:
“So that you know that just as you left your mother to die in the desert,
tomorrow your child will do the same to you!”

This sentence struck him like lightning.
He could not utter a word, and suddenly realized the injustice he had done.

He immediately mounted his horse alone and ran back quickly, lest the mother and child be eaten by wolves.

When he arrived, he saw:
His mother was standing with the child clutching her chest,
and the wolves were circling around,
and the mother was driving them away with stones.

The child, seeing his father, began to kiss his grandmother’s head.
The father began to cry.

He brought them back and after that he served his mother in a way that no one could compare. When the tribe traveled, he would put his mother on a camel and he himself would follow on horseback.

And his wife also found respect in his heart…

Because she taught her husband a great lesson that he could not forget for the rest of his life.

Isn’t this the greatest gift from a wife?
