What a terrible scene it was, when Khalifa Mutasim Baullah of Baghdad was bound in iron chains and fetters and standing in front of Halaku Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan.
When it was time to eat, Halaku Khan himself ate in a simple dish, and the Khalifa placed diamonds and jewels in front of him on gold plates. Then he said to Mutasim: “Eat, eat to your heart’s content, eat the gold and silver that you used to collect.
The crown prince of Baghdad stood as a picture of poverty and helplessness. He said, “How can I eat gold?” Halaku immediately said: “Then why did you collect this gold and silver? He could not answer.
Halaku Khan turned his eyes and saw the nets and strong gates of the palace. And asked: “Why didn’t you melt these nets and make iron arrows?
Instead of collecting these gems, why didn’t you give money to your soldiers to fight my forces bravely?”
Khalifa answered in regret: “This was the will of Allah.” Halako said in a loud voice: “Then what is going to happen to you will also be God’s will۔
And then Halaku Khan wrapped Mutasim Baullah in a special robe and trampled him under the tops of the horses, and he saw that he turned Baghdad into a graveyard!
Halaku said, “Today I have erased Baghdad from the face of existence, and now no power in the world can make it the former Baghdad!” And so it happened.
History counts victories the castle, clothing, diamonds, Jewels, and not all kinds of delicious food!
When science, arts, and research were being done in the West, then here, people like Tan Sen were inventing new tunes, and beautiful and attractive dancers were adorning the royal courts.
History has no interest in whether the rulers’ coffers are full or empty.
Are there diamonds in the crown of emperors or not? In the courts, are there a cluster of courtesans, marathis, tabla players, prostitutes, stipend-hungry poets, and jee-hozooris or not?
History is only interested in success, and history never accepts excuses!
And those who do not understand this fact, their situation will not be less than that of Khalifa Mutasim Ballah.

وہ کتنا عبرتناک منظر تھا جب معتصم بااللہ آہنی زنجیروں اور بیڑیوں میں جکڑا چنگیز خان کے پوتے ہلاکو خان کے سامنے کھڑا تھا۔۔۔۔۔!
کھانے کا وقت آیا تو ہلاکو خان نے خود سادہ برتن میں کھانا کھایا اور خلیفہ کہ سامنے سونے کی طشتریوں میں ہیرے جواہرات رکھ دیے۔۔۔۔۔!
پھر معتصم سے کہا :
” کھاؤ، پیٹ بھر کر کھاؤ، جو سونا چاندی تم اکٹھا کرتے تھے وہ کھاؤ “
بغداد کا تاج دار بےچارگی و بےبسی کی تصویر بنا کھڑا تھا۔
بولا ” میں سونا کیسے کھاؤں؟ “
ہلاکو نے فورا کہا :
” پھر تم نے یہ سونا اور چاندی کیوں جمع کیا؟
وہ جواب نہ دے سکا۔۔۔۔۔!
ہلاکو خان نے نظریں گھما کر محل کی جالیاں اور مضبوط دروازے دیکھے۔
اور سوال کیا:
” تم نے ان جالیوں کو پگھلا کر آہنی تیر کیوں نہیں بنائے ؟
تم نے یہ جواہرات جمع کرنے کی بجائے اپنے سپاہیوں کو رقم کیوں نہ دی کہ وہ جانبازی اور دلیری سے میری افواج کا مقابلہ کرتے؟”
خلیفہ نے تأسف سے جواب دیا:
” اللہ کی یہی مرضی تھی “
ہلاکو نے کڑک دار لہجے میں کہا:
” پھر جو تمہارے ساتھ ہونے والا ہے وہ بھی خدا ہی کی مرضی ہوگی “
ہلاکو خان نے معتصم بااللہ کو مخصوص لبادے میں لپیٹ کر گھوڑوں کی ٹاپوں تلے روند ڈالا اور چشم فلک نے دیکھا کہ اس نے بغداد کو قبرستان بنا ڈالا۔۔۔!
ہلاکو نے کہا ” آج میں نے بغداد کو صفحہ ہستی سے مٹا ڈالا ہے اور اب دنیا کی کوئی طاقت اسے پہلے والا بغداد نہیں بنا سکتی۔۔۔۔!”
اور ایسا ہی ہوا۔۔۔!
تاریخ تو فتوحات گنتی ہے
محل،
لباس،
ہیرے،
جواہرات
اور انواع و اقسام کے لذیذ کھانے نہیں۔۔۔۔۔!
جب مغرب میں علوم و فنون سائنس اور ریسرچ پروان چڑھ رہی تھی تب یہاں تان سین جیسے گوئیے نت نئے راگ ایجاد کر رہےتھے اور نوخیز خوبصورت و پرکشش رقاصائیں شاہی درباروں کی زینت و شان بنی ہوئی تھی
تاریخ کو اس بات سے کوئی غرض نہیں ہوتی کہ حکمرانوں کی تجوریاں بھری ہیں یا خالی ؟
شہنشاہوں کے تاج میں ہیرے جڑے ہیں یا نہیں ؟
درباروں میں خوشامدیوں، مراثیوں، طبلہ نوازوں، طوائفوں، وظیفہ خوار شاعروں اور جی حضوریوں کا جھرمٹ ہے یا نہیں ؟
تاریخ کو صرف کامیابیوں سے غرض ہوتی ہے اور تاریخ کبھی عذر قبول نہیں کرتی۔۔۔۔!
اور جن لوگوں کو اس حقیقت کا ادرک نہیں ان کا حال خلیفہ معتصم باللہ سے کم نہیں ہو گا۔
اللہ تبارک تعالیٰ میرے پیارے وطن کو سلامت رکھے اور ملک دشمن قوتوں کے شر سے محفوظ فرمائے۔ آمین ثم آمین۔
