In the dense forest, there lived an old owl whom the animals considered wise. He spoke little, but when he did, everyone would fall silent. In the same forest, there was also a monkey who was very clever, talkative, and liked to gather. Whenever there was a problem in the forest, a meeting was called. The owl gave thoughtful opinions, but the monkey always made noise, told stories, and presented his words as wisdom. One year, there was a severe shortage of food in the forest. A meeting was called to decide what to do. The owl said:
“We must set a hunting limit. Otherwise, the forest will be empty.” The monkey immediately jumped up:
“This old owl wants to scare us. Let the strong eat, and the weak learn!” The monkey’s words were applauded. The animals followed suit. In a few months, the forest became desolate. Hunting was over, the trees were uprooted. The monkey ran away to another forest, but the rest of the animals were trapped. Finally, when the assembly was held again, the owl said only this: “The voice of reason is often weak, but its end is the deepest.” If there is no distinction between noise and reason, the decision will be in favor of noise, and everyone will have to bear the loss.
