The Barber and God: The Argument That Changed Everything

The Barber and God: The Argument That Changed Everything

A man went to the barber shop to get his hair and beard trimmed as usual.

While the barber was busy with his work, an interesting conversation started between the two. In the conversation, various topics of the world came under discussion—life, circumstances, people… and then suddenly the conversation reached the existence of God.

The barber said while wielding the scissors:
“Look, brother, I don’t believe in the existence of God.”

The customer asked in surprise:
“Why do you say that?”

The barber took a deep breath and said:
“It’s very simple. Just go out on the street—you will understand for yourself that there is no God. If there was a God, would there be so many sick people? Would innocent children be wandering around helpless like this? If there was a God, why would there be so much sorrow, so much pain in the world? I cannot believe in a God who allows all this to happen.”

The customer fell silent. He thought for a moment, but said nothing to avoid an argument.

The barber finished his work, and the customer left the shop.

He had only walked a few steps when he saw a man—with long, tangled hair, a long, unkempt beard, and a very shabby appearance. It seemed as if he had not been to the barber for a long time.

Seeing this scene, a thought flashed through the customer’s mind like lightning.

He immediately entered the barber’s shop and said loudly:
“I have decided… There is no such thing as a barber in this world!”

The barber was shocked:
“What are you saying? I am here myself, and I am a barber!”

The customer smiled and said:
“No! There are no barbers… Because if there were, that man would not be outside in this condition—with such long hair and a disheveled beard!”

The barber immediately replied:
“Brother, there are barbers… The problem is that people don’t come to us!”

The customer’s eyes lit up. He said impressively:
“Exactly! That’s what I want to say…”

“God also exists… but the problem is that people don’t come to him, they don’t look for him… that’s why there is so much pain, so much suffering and so much anxiety in the world.”

And for a moment there was complete silence in the shop… as if the truth had made its own voice heard.
