An instructive and interesting incident
It is said that in ancient times there was a judge named Nuruddin. He was very famous for his intelligence, justice and wisdom. He was second to none in protecting the rights of the oppressed and punishing the oppressors.
One day he had to solve a very difficult case:
Two neighbors lived close to each other. One was kind-hearted and the other was cunning and cunning. The kind-hearted neighbor did not know that his neighbor was a deceiver.
One day the cunning neighbor was in deep trouble. There was nothing to eat in his house. He went to his kind-hearted neighbor for help, but he did not find anything there because the kind neighbor had gone to work since morning.
When he went out, he saw his neighbor returning from work on the way. He stopped him and said:
“I am in a very deep trouble, lend me two thousand dirhams.”
The good-hearted neighbor said without any doubt or hesitation:
“Tomorrow, God willing, come to this place, to this date tree, I will arrange the money.”
The next day, the good-hearted neighbor arrived there as promised and gave him two thousand dirhams. The unfortunate neighbor promised to return it in three months. The good-hearted neighbor did not take any condition or proof.
Three months later, the good-hearted neighbor went to get the money back, but the rude neighbor flatly refused. The good-hearted neighbor was surprised, and thought to himself:
“In an era where good is returned with evil and evil with good, the court is the only way to get justice.”
The good-hearted neighbor went to Qazi Nuruddin and narrated the whole incident. The Qazi called the rude neighbor and asked:
“Is this claim that you were given a loan of two thousand dirhams true?”
The rude neighbor flatly refused.
Qazi Nuruddin said to the good neighbor:
“Come, bring a handful of soil from the place where you gave the loan.”
The good neighbor did not return after a while. The Qazi asked the rude neighbor:
“Do you know why he is late?”
The rude neighbor said without thinking:
“That place is quite far from here.”
The Qazi smiled and said:
“If you have never taken a loan there, then how did you know that place?”
Similarly, the Qazi proved the good neighbor’s right and ordered that the debtor remain in prison until he returns the two thousand dirhams.
This story teaches us that honesty, trust and justice always win.
