The Young Lion Who Disobeyed the Elders
A long time ago, when the grass grew long and golden in the grasslands under the scorching sun, there lived a young lion named Kiron. The hair on his neck was just beginning to grow thick, and his chest was proud and broad.
Kiron was powerful—more powerful than many other lions his age—and he knew it.
Every evening, the old lions gathered under the broad acacia tree and talked about the old ways: when to hunt, when to rest, and which paths were dangerous. All the younger lions listened intently.
But Kiron did not listen.
He would wag his tail and say: “Why should I listen to these old stories? My legs are fast, my teeth are sharp. I will make my own way.”
The old lions looked at each other in silence but said nothing.
Once, during a drought, when the prey was scarce, the oldest lion warned the tribe:
“Do not hunt near the rocky ravine. The ground there deceives the unwary.”
The young lions nodded in agreement.
But Kieron only smiled.
That night, eager to prove himself, he sneaked out into the forbidden ravine. The moon was thin and the wind was rustling among the rocks. Soon he saw a lone deer on the edge of the cliff.
“This is my chance to prove my strength,” he thought.
Kieron crouched down… waited… and then lunged forward with all his might.
But the elders had been right.
The ground near the ravine was soft and vulnerable because of the hidden gravel. Kieron’s powerful leap betrayed him. His paws slipped and his body rolled downward. He crashed into the rocks below.
The deer disappeared into the darkness of the night.
Wounded, limping, Chiron returned to his tribe in the morning. The elder lions were already awake. They said nothing—just gave him a place to lie down.
Finally, the oldest lion said softly:
“Power may pave the way… but wisdom keeps you on the path.”
Chiron bowed his head. From that day on, whenever the elders spoke, he would listen first and leap later.
Moral lesson:
The pride that refuses guidance often leads straight to trouble. Experience is a map made from wounds, and those who ignore it have to learn the hard way.
